Unfortunately, it is also common practice to look down upon the practices of another culture because they are not similar to one’s own traditions. The ability to do this can sometimes be a damaging characteristic for society as a whole. A study conducted in 2004 on a wild fire at Voyageurs National Park in Minnesota, suggests that the fire can severely reduced the amount mercury in all forms in the area. Another experiment of a prescribe fire in Florida at the Longleaf Pine Forest concluded that 0.171 grams per hectare of mercury was reduced from 0.180 before the fire. On the other hand it also concluded that 1% of mercury re-emitted into the earth atmosphere during this fire, but it does depend on how much mercury deposits are in the soil at the time of the burn or fire (3)…. ;

– Horace Miner’s Body Ritual Among the Nacirema In Horace Miner’s article, “Body Ritual Among the Nacirema”, he talks about a tribe and describes their odd behavior. He tells about how the tribe performs these strange daily rituals and how their peculiarity is extreme, but in fact he is actually speaking of Americans as a whole (Miner). Miner uses this style of writing to more effectively prove his point: that Americans are ethnocentric. Miner does an exceptional job in disguising the Nacirema as Americans…. ;

– Beneath the Surface Review I think the key message that the play was trying to convey was that mistakes happen all the time. In this case, the purpose of the main character’s “dig” through Earth was to help him learn how to forgive himself and be able to move on with his life. The opening act of the play started with the main character, Andy, digging his way from Hawaii to Botswana. Over the course of his journey, the audience is introduced to an array of characters that are responsible in helping Andy find his inner peace…. ;
